Rob Gale named new Canadian Men’s U20 head coach

WINNIEPG – The Canadian Soccer Association has hired Robert Gale as the new head coach of the Men’s U-20 national team.

Gale has served as the Technical Director of the Manitoba Soccer Association for the past eight years. He also coached Canada’s Men’s U-18 and U-16 squads.

“Rob brings a wealth of coaching experience, having worked both in Canada and overseas in player development,” said Tony Fonseca, Canada Soccer’s Technical Director.

Born in Zambia to British parents, the Gale joined Fulham FC as a teenager before turning pro with Wycombe Wanderers FC.

“It’s an honour to lead the Men’s U-20 National Team,” said Gale. “I look forward to working with the players and developing the necessary plans to move forward. I am both humbled and proud to have this opportunity.”

When Gale decided to stop playing professionally, he focused on coaching. The 36-year-old obtained his licenses while rising in various developmental roles in the UK, USA and Canada before becoming Manitoba Soccer’s Technical Director in 2006.
