WINNIPEG – A veteran Manitoba RCMP officer has been accused of sex crimes against a young child.
Brandon police released the information Tuesday. The 55 year old man from the Arborg area, who has been a member of the RCMP for 26 years, was arrested Sunday and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference in an incident alleged to have happened last Friday.
The alleged victim is nine years old; police didn’t say if the alleged victim is a boy or girl. The assaults are alleged to have been committed near Ashern.
RCMP say they asked Brandon police to take over the investigation Saturday; the RCMP major crimes unit is helping in the investigation.
Police say the suspect was not on duty as a police officer at the time of the alleged offenses. He’s been released pending a court appearance in Ashern November 19th.
